Beach Guide To Chiclana

La Barrosa, Segunda Pista, Tercera Pista, La Loma, Sancti Petri

BEACHES.

Chiclana de la Frontera has some of the most beautiful beaches in Andalusia, thanks to its soft sand, clear waters and the sand dunes that back on to pine forests in many areas.

Playa de la Barrosa

This beach has been awarded Blue Flag status by the European Union for its high standards of cleanliness and excellent facilities, including toilets, showers, parking, lifeguards, kiosks, and restaurants. This beautiful beach is approximately 8 km long, and has a number of parking options dotted all the way along it. It is a very family-oriented beach, equipped with walkways adapted for people with reduced mobility, showers and toilets. All of this is manned by lifeguards during the swimming season. There is a variety of chiringuitos (beach bar / restaurants) dotted along the beach, which offer everything from a freshly grilled fish, to a gourmet burger, to an ice-cool beer. We recommend the beautiful sunsets that can be seen from this area at any time of the year. Renting equipment for water sports, such as Kitesurf and surf, is a possibility here. Being a very extensive beach, it is divided into several continues zones:

North end. A very family-oriented area with easy access to the beach as well as to bars and restaurants. There is a promenade of restaurants and bars on the back of the beach and toilet facilities.

Segunda Pista

This is where the promenade from the Primera Pista ends and is approximately 1km long. Here there are more good beach bars where you can have a drink or enjoy the typical gastronomy of the area. There are surf schools, which you can hire boards and wetsuits or you can take a lesson.

Tercera Pista

It is the area that is generally less busy, located at the beginning of the Novo Sancti Petri urbanization. Next to it there is a nice public pine forest equipped with picnic tables, where you can spend a fun day with your family. South of Tercera Pista you find all the large hotels of Novo Sancti Petri. The hotels are set back from the beach behind large sand dunes, and none are over three stories tall, which helps retaining a natural environmental feel. At the South of this area you find the area of La Loma and then beyond to the urbanization of Roche, which is actually in Conil.

La Loma

The beach area of La Loma is situated either side of the RIU and the Royal Hideaway hotel. There are lots of parking options which lead stairs to the beaches where there are many chiringuitos.

Roche

Roche is the southern most point of the 8km long beach with its beachfront villas sat overlooking the ocean and has a chiringuito and surf schools.  This area of the beach is the preferred spot for surfing as it faces in to the prevailing swell, offering fun for everyone. Although this beach is manned by lifeguards, the waves are generally always bigger at this end of the beach, so some caution is required during certain times of the year and during the high tide.

Sancti Petri

This popular beach stretches 2.5km from the the Puerto deportivo of Sancti Petri to the old watchtower, Torre de la Bermeja near Primera Pista. The sand is fine and golden with plenty of sand dunes and pine forests to explore to the east of the Punta de las Piedras. Thanks to the currents and winds between this beach and Playa del Castillo, it is very popular for wind-related sports. There is a watersports center offering rental and classes for every kind of marine activity. You can learn to sail, surf, wakeboard, windsurf, kitesurf, kayak and scuba dive, pedal boat and banana hire are also available for the whole family. Nature-lovers will enjoy the guided canoeing and paddle-surfing expeditions around the marismas. The beach has been awarded a Blue Flag by the European Union for its high standards of cleanliness and excellent facilities, including toilets, showers, parking, lifeguards, kiosks and restaurants. From here you can also take boat trips to Sancti Petri Island where the Romans believed the god Hercules was buried. There are a number of chiringuitos on the beach and good bars and restaurants at the marina.
